Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, and Technology
The PACE method ensures that the Health Provider can apply these four concepts quickly and effectively in the clinical environment.
Knowledge Platforms train the provider online in their own time prior to a live course. Materials includes online lectures, manuals, quizzes and exams,
The skills courses tend to have most or all of the following characteristics: They are highly regimented, reproducible and scalable. They are very ¨hands on¨, using manikin simulation, and use “Best Practice and Evidenced Based” protocols, and use mnemonics. They provide a competency-based certification and can only be taught by specific certified instructors. The certification cards can only be provided by designated training centers, and not instructors. The certification cards typically expire in two years, requiring refresher courses or re-certification.
The actual courses are either PACE sponsored and managed, or designated independent training sites. Sitios and sedes, may offer the courses and provide all of the material and personnel except for faculty and certification cards. Courses can also be sold on commission, especially by faculty. Each course is its own ¨discipline¨ with its own hierarchy of providers, potential instructors, course directors, coordinators and faculty. In all cases faculty are affiliated directly with the PACE Training Center and not the training sites. We strive to have multidisciplinary teams of community-oriented specialists, generalist to provide the medical and didactic leadership for these courses along with paramedics and nurses where appropriate.
The Ability Platform is implemented through the telementoring process described in the steps below. It is a concept championed by Project ECHO and used in partnership by PACE as a member of this impressive global network.
